TOEFL iBT® Test Day Information

TOEFL iBT® (internet-based test) is taken at a secure test centre, where you will need to show your ID, check in with the test administrator, and sit your test in a secure room. You will have to:

  • Show an ETS-approved form of identification (ID) that contains a photograph and signature.
  • Provide voice and signature samples.
  • Have your photo taken. This will be displayed at your computer station and embedded into your score report.

Arrival time

Please arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before your test start time. If you’re late, you will not be able to take the test.

How long is the test?

The entire test is given in half a day, unlike other tests that make you stay the full day or come back a second day. Total length of the test is 2 hours.

Identification (ID)

You will need to show an ETS-approved form of identification that contains a photograph and signature. To see what valid identification you can bring, click here. If you are not an Australian citizen, your ID must be a valid passport.

If you do not bring valid and acceptable ID, or if the name on your ID does not exactly match the name on your registration, you will not be permitted to test and your test fee will not be refunded. To learn more about identification requirements visit TOEFL®.
